VOLUNTEER FOR US

Volunteers are at the heart of The Churn Project. They play a vital role helping us to deliver services and making a positive impact on people’s lives.

This year 114 active volunteers have supported our work and another 200 volunteers contributed to one off events and projects.

We have over twenty different volunteer roles at The Churn Project. From supporting our varied family, wellbeing and older people groups, helping with employability and literacy skills, being a Good Neighbour Befriender or a Churn Champion volunteering at our events. The are all sorts of things you can do to make a difference.

The dedication of our volunteers helps us to create a stronger, more connected community. Whatever your skills, experience, background or how much time you have to give – a little help can make a big difference.

Volunteering gives you the opportunity to:

  • Give something back to your community, feel valued and part of a team.
  • Make new friends, have fun.
  • Develop new skills, enhance your CV and boost your confidence.

In return we will give you:

  • A full induction –  including an introduction to The Churn Project, safeguarding training, role description and designated staff support.
  • Ongoing support from our Volunteer Coordinator and regular check-ins.
  • Training and social opportunities to build new skills while making a positive impact in our local community.

Whatever your reason for offering your time and skills, we will value your contribution and make sure we find the right available opportunity for you.

CORPORATE VOLUNTEERING

Corporate volunteering is a fantastic way to boost morale, develop skills, and give back. We would love to work with you and your staff to help support our work.

While we cannot support one day corporate volunteering team building events, we can offer different and flexible opportunities.

  • Help at one of our community groups or events such as our Christmas events, Santa Run or regular concerts.
  • Support with one-off gardening, decorating, or practical projects.
  • Become a Digital Champion and help people to access simple IT on their phones or laptops.
  • Become a Good Neighbour Befriender and visit someone who is unable to leave their home.

Whether you have a few hours or want to commit to something longer term, we will try to offer volunteering opportunities that fit your team.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

DIGITAL CHAMPION VOLUNTEER

We are looking for Digital Champion volunteers to support people who struggle to use everyday digital technology like smartphones, apps and the online world.

Our Digital Champion volunteers play a vital role in supporting individuals who face challenges accessing or using digital technology. Our volunteers offer one-to-one or small group assistance across established community groups and through IT drop ins.

Digital Champions help participants build confidence in using devices such as smartphones, tablets, or computers, and navigate the online world safely and independently. You do not need to be a technical whizz kid, simply know the basics and have a desire to support people to access the digital world.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others and wants to make a real difference in reducing digital exclusion within the community.

The Churn Project is currently looking for volunteers in the Cirencester and Tetbury areas. But you would be part of a Gloucestershire wide Digital Champion Network with lots of support and training available through the Gloucestershire Digi Hubs initiative.

GOOD NEIGHBOURS BEFRIENDING VOLUNTEER

Do you live around the Cirencester area and have one hour a week to chat to an older person who feels isolated and would benefit from some company?

As a Churn Project Good Neighbours Befriending Volunteer you could provide companionship and social connection to an older people in Cirencester or the surrounding villages who is lonely or isolated because they cannot easily leave their home.

By offering regular visits, friendly conversations, and emotional support you will help their wellbeing, sense of belonging and even create a lasting friendship.

This flexible and rewarding role is ideal for compassionate, sociable individuals who want to make a real difference in someone’s day to day life.

As a befriending volunteer you will not be asked to do any personal care, shopping, or transport. Just a simple visit for a cuppa and social conversation once a week.

We ask for a commitment of one hour per week at a time chosen between you and the person you are befriending. And a minimum commitment of six months volunteering to provide continuity for the person you will be befriending.

Full volunteer induction, training and ongoing support is given by the Ageing Well team at The Churn Project who will work with you to find a suitable match and support you in your befriending role.
