The Churn Project’s brand-new Cooking for One course has got off to a fantastic start, with eight participants joining the four-week programme. Designed especially for people aged 60 and over, the course provides guidance and inspiration for making enjoyable, smaller meals – perfect for those adjusting to living alone or following bereavement.
The first session, run by Meliny at The Kitchen Club, was full of energy and flavour. Participants came for many reasons – from regaining lost cooking skills to finding advice on portion control and new ideas for inspiration. In a flurry of chopping, frying, and experimenting with herbs and spices, the group created a selection of delicious mince-based dishes for one, including cottage pie, spaghetti bolognese, chilli con carne, and burritos with salsa.
It was great to see everyone feeling inspired for what’s to come, with one participant commenting: “After just one session I feel so much more motivated – I’m actually looking forward to cooking again instead of seeing it as a chore.”
