Bringing Community Together: The Big Lunch in Cirencester

This past weekend, the Abbey Grounds in Cirencester were alive with music, laughter, and the vibrant energy of community spirit as people came together for The Big Lunch – a celebration of connection, community involvement, and sustainable living.

Inspired by the Eden Project’s UK-wide Big Lunch initiative, the event brought together families, friends, and neighbours for an afternoon of shared food, entertainment, and activities. From lively performances on the bandstand to creative workshops, climbing walls, and even a silent disco, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

This year’s theme, “Get Involved,” encouraged visitors to explore the many ways they can contribute to their local community. Charities and local groups, including The Churn Project, were on hand to share their work and invite people to join in. We hosted an information stall where we showcased items crafted by the Men’s Shed, and had an interactive area for children to sit with their families and make playdough creations, as well as a wellness activity where people could make essential oil infused bath salts to take home.

We hope that everyone who came along enjoyed the day, and we look forward to next year!
