Churn Good Neighbours

Social isolation and loneliness is bad for your health – research suggests that it can be as bad as heavy smoking. Churn Good Neighbours is a befriending service for older people living alone.

Our volunteers make weekly visits to people who can’t get out as much as they would like. The friendships that develop enrich the lives of both people.

Our volunteer team have made more than 14,000 visits since we set up the service in 2008. Thanks to a Reaching Communities grant from the Big Lottery, we are working in partnership with Cotswold Friends (in the North Cotswolds) and People for You (in Tetbury, Fairford and Lechlade) as part of Cotswold Befrienders. So any older person living alone anywhere in the Cotswold District can have a visitor if they would like one.

How do I get involved?

This is a free and confidential service available to anyone over the age of 65 living on their own. We try to match people up with a volunteer they are likely to get on with. The volunteer will call round regularly each week for a chat and a cup of tea or perhaps to go out for a walk or drive. They won’t take on other tasks but will keep a friendly eye on them and, through the CGN Manager, can signpost to other services if they are needed.

If you’d like to find out more about how to volunteer or how to refer someone you think could benefit from this service, please contact us
